Where did your name come from?
The Story of My Name:
Eboni Belevette
Names carry stories, legacies, and lineages within them. Mine—Eboni Belevette—is no exception. For much of my life, I didn’t fully realize the depth of history held within my name, but as I’ve grown, I’ve come to see it as a crown I proudly wear.
The Power of Eboni
I was born in 1974, during a time when Black culture, identity, and pride were flourishing in new ways. Both my sister and I were named after two iconic Black magazines of the era: Ebony and Essence. My mother chose “Eboni” for me and “Essence” for my sister, connecting us to the richness of our heritage and the pride of a people making their voices heard.

My name, Eboni, reflects more than just the magazine. It symbolizes the deep brown hue of the ebony tree, a symbol of strength, resilience, and beauty. It has been a legacy that has walked with me all my life, marking me as a daughter of Black pride, history, and endurance.

A Middle Name Full of Legacy
If my first name connects me to culture, my middle name ties me directly to my family roots. My mother created “Belevette” by combining the names of my two grandmothers: Bell (on her side) and Beverly (on my father’s side).
At first, I didn’t understand how unique this was. But as I matured and reflected on the strength of these women, I grew to embrace the name as a legacy of perseverance.
My grandmother on my mother’s side had only a second-grade education, yet she had the courage to move from the South to Chicago and raise my mother largely on her own. In a city that was challenging and often unforgiving, she created a life from limited means with unshakable determination.
My grandmother on my father’s side had her own remarkable story. She, too, came from the South with limited opportunities, but she became a homeowner on the South Side of Chicago and remained there her entire life. Having been a teenage mother herself, she dedicated her life to fostering teenage girls, offering them the support she wished she had during her own early motherhood. She poured into them until the day she passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service, resilience, and love.

Claiming My Name, Claiming Myself
For many years, I didn’t fully embrace Belevette. But as I grew into womanhood, I began to understand that my middle name was not just a combination of letters—it was the strength and sacrifice of two women whose resilience flows through me. Today, I proudly honor them by weaving my name into my business: Belvette Crystals.
Now, as I step fully into my role as a coach, healer, and guide, I go by:
Eboni Belevette, CCC – Coaching, Codes & Crystals.

My name is not just a label. It is a story of culture, legacy, survival, and pride. It carries the voices of my parents, the sacrifices of my grandmothers, and the richness of Black identity. Every time I say it, I remind myself of who I am, where I come from, and the line of strength I carry forward
